Context

Across the globe, women play an essential role in tackling the climate change challenge. They are taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by leading initiatives that promote new solutions to addressing climate change, while providing economic benefits to communities around the world. They are also promoting transformative partnerships that help to adapt to the effects of climate change and build resilient societies.

Organized by UN Climate Change’s Momentum for Change initiative, this 60-minute online event will be part of gender-related programming to show how women are leading the way on climate action worldwide. This event is in conjunction with a Gender and Climate Change discussion at the UNFCCC Climate Dialogues, which will be held immediately prior to the Women for Results event.

Description/Objective

This event will showcase the five winning projects of the 2020 UN Global Climate Action Awards under the Women for Results focus area, including a moderated discussion on how to advance women’s full, equal and meaningful participation in tackling climate change and how to promote gender-responsive climate policy.

Programme

The event will follow a panel discussion format with winners presenting their solutions. A live moderated discussion with the five winning activities will follow the presentations.
