BACKGROUND

The LEG meets twice a year to develop and review progress on the implementation of its work programme. At this meeting, the LEG will discuss progress in the implementation of its work programme for 2026–2027 as contained in document FCCC/SBI/2026/8, annex II. The meeting will also include discussions with representatives of the least developed countries (LDCs), and relevant organizations, including the Adaptation Fund Board secretariat, the Green Climate Fund secretariat, the Global Environment Facility and its agencies, and regional centres and networks on support provided to the LDCs for the implementation of NAPs.

Progress in the implementation of the LEG work programme for 2026–2027

a) Authoritative technical guidance on adaptation planning and implementation; 

    i) Operational NAP AI studio and sample applications (NAPX, NAP exchange) 

    ii) Supplements to the updated NAP technical guidelines  

    iii) Scientific writing publication  

    iv) Tabular format for adaptation reporting, including in BTRs 

b) Access to adaptation finance for implementing NAPs 

    i) Overview of climate finance flows for the formulation and implementation of NAPs  

    ii) Support countries in developing project ideas and preparing concept notes (Advancing the matchmaking process) 

    iii) Draft recommendations to the SCF 

c) Direct technical support to facilitate the transition from NAP formulation to implementation 

    i) Direct country support update and next steps 

    ii) Compilation of NAP priorities  

d) Capacity-building, peer learning and regional-level support 

    i) Mandated meeting: findings and way forward  

    ii) Capacity building coordination platform 

e) Synthesis of knowledge on adaptation and monitoring and reporting on the progress in the NAP process 

    i) Annual NAP progress report 

    ii) Knowledge products based on the NAP summaries 

f) Integration of cross-cutting elements into and coordination of work programme activities 

    i) Integration of gender and enhancing implementation of the Belem gender action plan 

    ii) Collaborating with other constituted bodies and organizations in fulfilling joint mandates and undertaking activities of common interest 

    iii) LEG 25th anniversary planning   

4. Collaborating with the GCF, the GEF/LDCF and the AF on support provided to the LDCs for the formulation and implementation of NAPs and related elements of the LDC work programme
5. Meeting with the LDCs, UN agencies, organizations and regional networks and centres (26 and 27 August 2026)
