Background

Women Engage for a Common Future (WECF) is a non-profit network that encourages feminist action that transforms systems of power, advances climate justice, and promotes gender equality. Our work centers on three pillars: Capacity building and strengthening, policy influencing, and campaigns and awareness-raising.

Climate and environmental governance under the Rio Conventions often lacks integration and gender responsiveness. This session addresses these gaps by promoting holistic, inclusive solutions that leverage local knowledge and feminist action.

This session will explore how gender-responsive and community-based approaches can strengthen the implementation of the Rio Conventions. It aims to foster collaboration among policymakers, grassroots organizations, and researchers, showcasing feminist climate solutions from the Global South.

Objectives

  • Enhance understanding of linkages between gender justice and the Rio Conventions.

  • Build capacity for designing gender-responsive and inclusive climate and environmental policies.

  • Promote cross-sectoral collaboration and knowledge exchange.

  • Showcase gender-responsive practical climate solutions and lived experiences from the Global South
