Promotion of Energy Efficiency and Propagation of Green Energy through Women's Initiatives - India

This activity aims to disseminate clean energy technology and energy efficiency information in the domestic sector by providing energy training to young women across India.

The problem

There is a lack of awareness on clean energy and energy efficiency in India and many households are not motivated to switch to clean energy.

The solution

Women are receiving training in clean energy technology and energy efficiency. They are trained in maintenance, servicing and repair of renewable energy devices. These women are organizing self-help groups to set up service centers for sustainable income generation. Each woman visits all the households in a respective area that has been assigned to her. She spreads the clean energy message through personal interactions. The aim is to motivate the households to switch to clean energy for domestic requirements. Trained volunteers are paid a fixed sum per household visit.

Helping the planet

Through sustained efforts clean energy solutions can be made acceptable to households. Each household can be transformed into agents of efficient energy use. The project will result in reducing the emission of CO2 to a considerable measure and has long term benefits.

Helping people

These young women are disseminating information about clean energy solutions to the people that need it the most. They are also creating awareness about government policies, subsidies and other benefits that could be useful to low-income households.

Scaling Up

This program can be replicated in other states resulting in the establishment of energy clinics in all districts across the country. As more and more women are trained and deployed to disseminate clean energy information, clean energy propagation and promotion of energy efficiency will become an essential part of all households in the country.
