Background

The private sector plays a crucial role in the fight against climate change. Companies who implement measures to reduce their carbon emissions, adopt sustainable practices, and promote innovation in clean technologies significantly contribute to addressing the issue and actively work towards a net zero carbon future.

This event supports the Latin American region’s work to promote South-South cooperation and the sharing of information. During the session, successful case studies from different Latin American sub-regions and countries will be presented. These will highlight the actions and strategies implemented by private sector companies and organizations to address climate change. Such practical examples can serve as inspiration and guidance for other companies to duplicate and even amplify.

Finally, the event will shine a light on the need for the public and private sectors to enhance collaboration to effectively tackle climate change. During the session, approaches to strengthen such synergies and promote greater cooperation will be presented and discussed.

This event sought to:

• Promote the private sector involvement in addressing climate change challenges by showcasing successful case studies, including actions and strategies undertaken in the Food, Agriculture, and Water sectors, with a view to reducing carbon emissions and advancing sustainable practices. 

• Intensify collaboration between public organizations and the private sector, aiming for more ambitious and sustainable results in reaching the goals of the Paris Agreement.
