Background

The Asia-Pacific Climate Week 2023 (APCW 2023) is one of four Regional Climate Weeks held this year to build momentum ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference COP 28 in Dubai and the conclusion of the first global stocktake, directing the course of future climate strategies and initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

The objective of Youth Affiliated Event at APCW 2023 is to co-create a platform for youth to get together and discuss opportunities to enhance meaningful youth engagement and participation in climate policy making and action in the Asia Pacific region through various events. It is also a crucial convergence of minds, efforts, and visions in the realm of climate action.

Session Description

This session comprises two important segments: the commencement of youth-affiliated events at the Asia Pacific Climate Week 2023 through a high-level opening, followed by an enriching intergenerational dialogue.

The High-level Opening of the Youth Affiliated Event aims to set the tone and momentum for the youth-affiliated events during Climate Week. It will emphasize the significance of integrating the perspectives and aspirations of young people, providing space for meaningful youth engagement, and investing in youth empowerment and capacity building to shape the climate agenda. The high-level opening will also pave the way for the intergenerational dialogue, featuring representatives from the host government, UNFCCC, as well as youth and children's representatives.

The subsequent segment, the Intergenerational Dialogue, aims to unpack the diverse thoughts, wisdom, and insights coming from a wealth of diversity and rich intergenerational experiences in the Asia Pacific region to collaboratively shape the future we desire. This segment will address the necessity of intergenerational climate dialogues in the Asia Pacific region, where we will reflect on our unique challenges, explore opportunities, and devise strategies for collective action as we approach COP28 and beyond.
