Youth, Children, Education and Skills Day at COP28

Youth, Children, Education and Skills Day took place on 8 December at COP28.

Organized by the COP28 Presidency, the COP 28 Youth Climate Champion (YCC) in collaboration with YOUNGO, 7 thematic-focused dialogue sessions which allowed youth to share and discuss policy priorities directly with negotiators and experts in the various areas took place during the first week of COP 28 as part of the overall Youth-led Climate Forum. The thematic dialogues were preceded by a headline event, the Dubai Youth Climate Dialogue, which was held on the 8th of December as part of the Youth, Children, Education and Skills Day, synthesizing the priorities, outcomes and next steps from the dialogues. The events sought to create an intergenerational dialogue on both negotiated and non-negotiated outcomes, putting youth at the forefront of multilateral climate negotiations and holding key decision makers accountable.

The events were organized in response to the Glasgow Climate Pact (para. 65, Decision 1/CP.26), in which the Presidencies are invited to facilitate the organization of an annual youth-led climate forum for dialogue between Parties and youth in collaboration with the UNFCCC children and youth constituency and other youth organizations with a view to contributing to the implementation of the Glasgow work programme on Action for Climate Empowerment.

In addition, YOUNGO successfully managed to launch their Youth Stocktaking Report which provided an opportunity to propose ways to enhance youth inclusion in the UNFCCC process.
