The Climate Photo of this week captures the desertification of Mongolia. Today 25% of Mongolia's population lives a nomadic life, remaining dependent on open land for survival. Climate Change is worsening already difficult living conditions. In the last 30 years, 25% of Mongolia's land has turned into desert and, according to the UNCCD, 70% of Mongolian territory is at risk of desertification.

Korean-born photographer Daesung Lee produced the photo series "Futuristic Archaeology. Lee explained that the project mirrors the idea of a museum diorama. He puts real people and their livestock  in front of printed images on a billboard showing the original green plains that are designed to match up exactly with the current barren landscape. The images are a warning that the nomadic lifestyle might only exist in a museum in the future, Lee says.
