Background
The first global stocktake (GST) concluded at CMA 5, with the adoption of decision 1/CMA.5, which requested the Chairs of the subsidiary bodies to organize an annual dialogue starting at their sixtieth sessions to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and good practices on how the outcomes of the global stocktake are informing the preparation of Parties’ next nationally determined contributions in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Paris Agreement.
The first GST NDC dialogue was held on 6 to 7 June 2024 in conjunction with SB 61 in Bonn, Germany. The summary report of the dialogue was published here.
Formats and thematic areas
The GST NDC dialogue 2025 will be held from 19 to 20 June 2025. The dialogue will be conducted in plenary format and consist of an opening segment, two roundtable discussions and a closing segment. It will be conducted under the guidance of the Chairs of the subsidiary bodies and will be open to all Parties and non-Party stakeholders.
Roundtable 1: Integrating GST outcomes into the preparation of NDCs
- Exchange information, practices, and experiences related to the preparation and updating of NDCs, and consider how the first GST outcomes are informing Parties’ NDCs across mitigation and response measure, adaptation and loss and damage, and means of implementation.
- Share practices on how NDCs incorporate cross-cutting elements and global commitments in decision 1/CMA.5.
Roundtable 2: Advancing NDC implementation and enabling environment
- Exchange experiences, lessons and practices related to policies and measures for NDC implementation.
- Discuss support needs for NDC updating and implementation, particularly for developing country Parties, as well as enabling policies, technologies and mechanisms to support achievement of the global goals through NDCs.
- Share experiences and opportunities for further international cooperation among Parties and with all stakeholders.
