PCCB regional activities

This page presents targeted outreach activities to foster exchange on capacity-building at the national and regional level such as thematic dialogues and/or workshops co-organized during regional climate weeks.

Such promotion of strategic stakeholder engagement is a key part of the current PCCB workplan.

PCCB regional thematic dialogue at Regional Climate Weeks 2023: Building capacities for National Adaptation Plan (NAP) implementation strategies

Background

During the 12th Durban Forum on capacity-building, and based on the synthesis of submissions received from Parties and non-Party stakeholders on the annual focus area, it was revealed that as of 21 October 2022, only 14 out of 37 NAPs had accompanying implementation strategies.

Recognizing the significance of addressing this issue, the PCCB, in collaboration with the NAP Global Network, organizes a series of regional thematic dialogues at the 2023 Regional Climate Weeks centering on "Building Capacities for NAP Implementation Strategies", to explore ways to enhance the capacities of developing countries to increase the impact of NAPs in the Africa, Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), and Asia-Pacific (AP) regions.

Moreover, as major capacity gaps in this area were identified at the 12th Durban Forum and in the above-mentioned synthesis of submissions, developing Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) approaches for tracking progress on NAPs and improving adaptation planning and outcomes at the national level will also be a focus during the events. To ensure consistency and facilitate comparison of findings across different regions, the dialogues will center on this overarching theme. Additionally, as per usual practice, the PCCB will seek to mainstream cross-cutting issues, such as human rights, gender responsiveness and indigenous peoples’ knowledge across its regional thematic dialogues.

PCCB side events at Regional Climate Weeks 2022: Capacities needed for the horizontal and vertical integration of  Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)
Background

The horizontal and vertical integration of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) provide opportunities for greater policy synergies, efficiency, and coherence, at the same time, there is also a need to build capacities to mobilize such opportunities related to different integration approaches. Aligning climate and development agendas and integrating NDCs across the board could enhance horizontal policy coherence. At the same time, the integration of NDCs at different levels of governance, namely regional, national, and local, could enhance vertical policy coherence.

To discuss such approaches, through this side event series the PCCB in collaboration with the PCCB Network seeks to facilitate the exploration of what capacities are needed for horizontal and vertical integration of NDCs. The series seeks to provide a space to share experiences and exchange knowledge, case-studies, and best practices related to policy coherence and specifically to the role of capacity-building in the horizontal and vertical integration of NDCs.
