Webinar - Notification to Parties on NDC and LT-LEDS Synthesis Reports (Africa)  

On the 22nd of April, the UNFCCC secretariat sent a notification to Parties and observer groups informing them about the important dates and approaches for the NDC Synthesis Report and LT-LEDS Synthesis Report.  

This webinar was organized by the UNFCCC Regional Collaboration Centre Kampala and the Regional Collaboration Centre Lomé with the UNFCCC secretariat and along with development partners, to share with interested Parties in Africa further details on the NDC and LT-LEDS Synthesis Reports while soliciting perspectives from Parties in terms of their plans of submission of updates to NDCs or their LT-LEDS in advance of COP27, and bring together development partners to share opportunities for support available.

Virtual Regional Dialogues on Article 6 Capacity Building Needs in Africa 

The Regional Dialogues on Article 6 Capacity Building Needs aim at gathering information on the capacity building needs of Parties. The dialogue on Article 6 Capacity Building Needs focuses on debriefing relevant COP26 outcomes on Article 6 including Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) transition. The dialogue is aimed to understanding capacity building needs of Parties regarding their participation in all aspects of Article 6 and to allow Parties to engage in CDM transition.

Discussion of the regional dialogue inform the UNFCCC Article 6 workplan, identifying capacity building needs and gathering information for development of the Article 6 work programme for capacity building in the region.

  •  8 November 2021 | In-person: 3rd Capacity Building Hub at COP26
    Are SMEs ready for Climate Action: sharing global experiences on capacity building?: Private sector action, including by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), will be critical actors in addressing climate change. Thus, it is critical for SMEs to both find ways to mitigate emissions, and to be prepared to deal with future climate impacts to increase resilience. The UN Climate Change secretariat and its Regional Collaboration Centres in Bangkok, Dubai and Kampala in collaboration with other partners organized a joint event to: 1)  Present the results of the studies conducted to identify capacity-building gaps and needs in relation to climate action of SMEs from mapping studies in the different regions, and 2)  advance understanding of existing initiatives on climate engagement with the SMEs to address the gaps and needs and formulate forward looking recommendations.     ‘’Building SME’s Capacity on Climate Action – Experiences from Eastern and Southern Africa’’ 
    Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) particularly in Eastern and Southern Africa, face many challenges towards greening their operations, including knowledge about technologies and process to reduce carbon emissions and to climate-proof their business. "This virtual side event was organized to bring together leading experts to share experiences on building SMEs’ capacity on climate action." 
     

  • 25 March-29 April 2021 | Virtual:
    Rwanda Enhances Civil Society Support for NDCs The first African nation with an updated NDC takes a step towards civil society access to climate finance. One of the key success factors for unlocking climate action, and a priority of the COP26 Presidency and UN Climate Change, is mobilizing climate finance. Therefore, it was timely for Rwandan CSOs to build capacity to access climate finance in the first country in Africa with their enhanced NDC. Read full article here>>
     

  • 6-22 April 2021 | Virtual:
    The Eastern and Western Africa Alliances on Carbon Markets and Carbon Finance, UNFCCC Regional Collaboration Centres Kampala and Lome, with the support of CiACA teamed up to offer a three-week online course on carbon taxes.
