As the sphere of governance closest to communities, local government is well placed to respond to the implementation of the aims UNFCCC and its Kyoto Protocol, ito a decreasing ghg emissions and responding to the harmful impacts of climate change, in a manner that is sustainable. In South Africa, as is the case with most developing countries, this response is primarily from a developmental perspective and secondarily from a climate change perspective.

Zoom - Kids on the move for climate protection
A Europe-wide campaign for children aged 3 to 10 years old on sustainable mobility and climate protection running since 2002 with great success. By collecting Green Footprints the children show the "big ones", what the "small ones"do for the protection of the global climate. A Green Footprint is awarded for each journey made using a sustainable means of transport- on foot, by bike or scooter, or by bus or rail.

Climate change effects on Nunavut
Nunavut is located in the Canadian arctic. It extends from the 60th parallel to the North pole. Nunavut is already feeling the effect of the changing climate and as a result has to ensure the development of appropriate tools to address those effects through adaptation and GHG reduction

Main activities of Perugia University about Technologies for Greenhouse Gases Mitigation
The Masters Programme in Technologies for Greenhouse Gases Mitigation of the University of Perugia, directed by Professor Desideri, is the only Masters programme of its kind to date concerning this topic. The courses began in 2004. The spin-off TREE SRL, Technologies for Greenhouse Gases Reduction, is a company founded by many University of Perugia researchers and professors to apply research results to real cases on industries and energy systems and to develop energy and environment technologies for emissions mitigation.
