The goal of SED 4-1 is to make a contribution to the assessment of the adequacy of the long-term global goal and the overall progress made towards achieving it, to the extent possible, on the basis of the Synthesis Report of the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and other sources of information.

SED 4-1 consisted of two parts that will consider the two themes of the review in a balanced manner. The first part (2 December 2014,
15.00–18.00) focused on the AR5 Synthesis Report. The second part (3 December, 15.00–18.00) focused on other sources of information.

The goal of SED 4-2 is to complete its work by addressing, in a balanced manner, all remaining inputs to the 2013-2015 review. It will focus on non-Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) information sources identified in decision 2/CP.17, paragraph 161 (b-d). Pursuant to decision 1/CP.18, paragraphs 84, 86(b), and 89, the meeting will also address information that has been published after the cut off dates of the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) and identify information gaps.
