Context

The Rio Conventions—the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)—share interlinked objectives that are critical to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Recognizing the interconnectedness of climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation, the Rio Conventions Joint Capacity-Building Programme aims to enhance synergies among these conventions by strengthening individual, institutional, and systemic capacities.

National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) serve as the primary instruments for implementing the CBD at the national level. Integrating the objectives of all three Rio Conventions into NBSAPs can lead to more coherent and effective environmental governance. This webinar seeks to explore practical approaches to achieving such integration.

Objectives

• Improve comprehension of the interlinkages among the Rio Conventions and their relevance to NBSAPs.
• Present successful country experiences in integrating the objectives of the Rio Conventions into NBSAPs.
• Explore the role of biodiversity finance in supporting integrated implementation of the Rio Conventions.
• Encourage cross-sectoral and multi-stakeholder collaboration to promote synergistic approaches in NBSAPs design, their implementation and related financing solutions.
