Background
In preparation for the update of the next round of nationally determined contribution (NDCs), RCC Latin America is providing a technical support on the preparation of the new NDC and the use of cooperative approaches under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement to the Government of Guatemala through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN). This support program consists of the series of capacity building and strengthening activities aimed at experts from Guatemala including a regional exchange between representatives from Chile, Colombia and Panama to share experiences in the design and implementation of carbon pricing instrument policies and their participation in carbon markets under domestic and international approaches, including Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
Being organized in collaboration with UNEP's LAC6 Readiness Project and with support from the Government of Guatemala, this three-day workshop focused on operationalizing Article 6, targeting 40 participants from the Ministry of Environment to equip them with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively implement carbon pricing instruments and leverage cooperative approaches under Article 6.

Development of an Article 6 Roadmap: A key takeaway from the week was the creation of a comprehensive roadmap for Article 6 participation. This roadmap outlines the necessary steps for Guatemala to fully engage in international carbon markets, including capacity-building and aligning stakeholder interests.

RCC LatAm will continue fostering collaboration among sectors, prioritizing the strengthening of communication and coordination between public and private institutions to address climate challenges. Efforts will centre around implementing the inter-ministerial roadmap and promoting public awareness campaigns on sustainable practices.
In conclusion, the training not only promoted dialogue and the exchange of best practices, but also aligned with international commitments, including the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
