The BioCarbon Fund will soon join the Prototype Carbon Fund and the Community Development Carbon Fund in the World Bank carbon finance activities. This new fund will deliver emission reductions along with environmental and community benefits to host countries. The event will focus on practical aspects of the design of the BioCarbon Fund. Panelists will present the methods by which additionality will be assessed and the design of benchmarks. A research team led by Prof. Michael Grubb has over the past year undertaken a strategic assessment of the Kyoto-Marrakesh system, covering four main modules: the economics of how the Annex B commitments and trading system may work in practice in the aftermath of withdrawal by the United States; the role of companies in the development of the national and international policies; the prospects for action in and engagement of the United States; the context and approaches for post-2012 commitments. Description and demonstration of PC-based, user-friendly software for the development of scenarios of future climate change and for the quantification of uncertainties at both the global-mean and regional level. The global-mean component uses the MAGICC coupled gas-cycle/climate model, which is the model that was used to make the projections of global-mean temperature given in the IPCC Third Assessment Report (TAR, Ch. 9). Users can emulate TAR results or expand these to other emissions scenarios. The SCENGEN components translates the global-mean projections to regional scale (gridpoint) results using results from 17 different coupled Atmosphere/Ocean General Circulation Models. The uncertainty analysis allows results to be given in probabilistic terms.
