Public Awareness, Participation and Access to Information: Good Practices

Accessing Information on Climate Change in Sweden

The Swedish government implemented an awareness raising campaign on the European Union’s (EU)’s environmental policy, in particular the 6th Environment Action Programme (EAP), for children and youth.

Sweden offers various public databases, websites and resource materials that provide information on the causes and effects of climate change, as well as the government’s climate policy making and implementation.

A network of regional coordinators was developed and teacher training and educational material provided. Methods of communication included a website, newsletters and films about climate change. In terms of impact, this project has engaged with 340,000 children and youth, as well as 29 000 teachers in schools and pre-schools.
