On 10 November in the UGIH Pavilion @ COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, the UN Climate Change Global Innovation Hub (UGIH) launched the UGIH Virtual Hub to connect key innovators and investors. The UGIH Virtual Hub matchmaking platform brings together cities, communities, regional partnerships and others in need of climate solutions with solution providers at the cutting edge of climate action. Applied to climate change and sustainable development, innovation can help deliver transformative climate action and SDG solutions for 11 billion people by 2050. Announced in November 2021 at the UN Climate Change conference, the UGIH promotes transformative innovations for a low-emission and climate-resilient future. The UGIH Virtual Hub was launched to connect those that need climate solutions with solution providers and enabling organizations.

Using a need-based and solution-oriented approach, the UGIH Virtual Hub is a marketplace that brings together:

  • Demand actors – Cities, subnational governments and large companies
  • Climate and sustainability solution providers – Cities, subnational governments, large companies, start-ups and those supporting accelerated uptake such as incubators
  • Enablers – Financial stakeholders, social media platforms, legal stakeholders, management consultants and policy actors

UGIH Global Innovation Hub Pavilion @ COP27

The UGIH Pavilion @ COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh will promote integrated innovations that can help meet human needs in a globally sustainable 1.5℃-compatible society where more then 10 billion citizens can thrive on a healthy planet.

The Pavilion is a space to introduce new products, business models, innovations and services. Discussing innovation can advance markets and both transform and create supply chains. Innovation can be used to manage change and discover new opportunities. Currently, climate innovation is focused on fostering competitive advantage and sustaining current growth paths, and increasingly to comply with economic and social regulations that ask stakeholders for emission reductions.

With a cluster of climate actors using the Pavilion at COP27 as a collaborative platform, the UGIH can help develop, transfer and deploy solutions that align with the SDGs and climate goals.
