Virtual Gender Market Place

 9 November, 15:00 - 18:00

Following the launch event, participants had the opportunity to create an avatar and explore the conference and networking space. It was a great opportunity to connect with those who work on gender and climate change through the combined web-based video calling and 2-D virtual world that put together organizations active at the international, national, sub-national, regional or community level.

Exhibitors showcased their work and presented their posters and resources. Participants also had the chance to take part in the language cafés, dance floor (playlist available here) and poetry corner.

Did you miss it? You can find all the posters and videos from the VGMP here.

Closing discussion and summary

Women and girls, particularly those facing intersecting inequalities, are disproportionately impacted by climate change, but they are also critical leaders at all levels of climate action, from local communities to global forums. Building on the UN Women convened Action Coalition on Feminist Action for Climate Justice and the UNFCCC Gender Action Plan, this event will bring together Ministers, civil society, business leaders and activists, and will drive progress through the announcement of new commitments and policy solutions. The event’s objective is to showcase some of the best and brightest new examples of how to enable gender equality in climate action, sending a message that the time for gender-responsive implementation is now.

At COP 25 Parties adopted the 5-year enhanced Lima work programme on gender and its gender action plan (Decision 3/CP.25) through which it encourages Parties to appoint and provide support for national gender and climate change focal points (NGCCFP) for climate negotiations, implementation and monitoring. The COP also requested the secretariat, with the contribution of the NGCCFPs, Parties and relevant organizations, to organize an in-session workshop at SB 52 to discuss and clarify the role and the work of the NGCCFP, that is to lead to the formulation of recommendations on the role (GAP Activity A.2).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the secretariat organized a virtual workshop series in 2020, which concluded with an in-person workshop at COP26.

The objective of this workshop was to allow NGCCFPs and Parties to reflect on and develop recommendations on the role of NGCCFPs. Experiences were shared to inspire collaborative reflections.

The recommendations on the role of NGCCFPs will be published in an informal report.
