The search for the 2014 Lighthouse Activities is on! Applications are being accepted from 31 March to 23 May.

Lighthouse Activities shine a light on the most practical, scalable and replicable examples of what people around the world are doing to tackle climate change.

If you’re leading a small, entrepreneurial project or if you’re part of a large initiative that is transforming cities, governments and businesses, we want to hear from you!

Momentum for Change is an initiative spearheaded by the UN Climate Change secretariat to shine a light on the enormous groundswell of activities underway across the globe that are moving the world toward a highly resilient, low-carbon future. Momentum for Change looks for innovative and transformative solutions that address both climate change and wider economic, social and environmental challenges.

Momentum for Change's Lighthouse Activities highlight some of the most practical, scalable and replicable examples of what people, businesses, governments and industries are doing to tackle climate change.

Momentum for Change: Areas of Focus

Urban Poor: recognizing climate action that improves the lives of impoverished people in urban communities. This focus area is implemented with the generous support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Women for Results: recognizing the critical leadership and participation of women in addressing climate change. This focus area is implemented with the generous support of The Rockefeller Foundation.

Financing for Climate Friendly Investment: recognizing successful and innovative climate-smart activities. This focus area is implemented in partnership with the World Economic Forum.

ICT Solutions: recognizing successful climate change activities in the field of information and communication technology. This focus area is implemented in partnership with the Global e-Sustainability Initiative.

Recognizing concrete action on the ground

Momentum for Change holds calls for applications on an annual basis. Prospective activities must already be demonstrating results in mitigating or adapting to climate change and have a scalable, replicable, transformative and innovative component.

Each year, the Momentum for Change Advisory Panel selects a small number of activities to become Lighthouse Activities. These activities are recognized during the United Nations Climate Change Conferences.

All applications that meet the criteria will be presented in the Momentum for Change activity database.
