Director, Climate Change, World Bank Group
James Close is the director in the Climate Change Group of the World Bank. He and his team provide leadership on Climate Change across the World Bank Group covering policy, tools and methodologies, finance, and disaster risk and resilience. They manage over $10 billion of climate funds. They lead advocacy efforts on carbon pricing and supporting client countries on implementation. James was heavily involved in developing and delivering the World Bank Group program at CoP22 in Marrakesh.
Prior to his appointment, James was the Head of the PPIAF at the World Bank. His career includes positions as a Partner at EY and Head of Corporate and Private Finance at HM Treasury.
He has worked extensively on energy policy, climate change and green growth, advising the public and private sectors.
