The Conference of the Parties, by its decision 1/CP.21, paragraph 20, decided to convene a facilitative dialogue among Parties in 2018 to take stock of the collective efforts of Parties in relation to progress towards the long-term goal referred to in Article 4, paragraph 1, of the Agreement and to inform the preparation of nationally determined contributions pursuant to Article 4, paragraph 8, of the Agreement.
At COP23, the Talanoa Dialogue was launched, to start in January 2018. The approach to the dialogue is contained in the annex II to decision 1/CP.23.
On May 8, a reporting meeting will be organized during the lunch break. The objective of this meeting will be to share with Parties and non-Party stakeholders the key messages identified during the in-depth Talanoa discussions. The facilitators, with the assistance of the rapporteurs, will prepare one consolidated report for each of the three questions of the Talanoa Dialogue. After the three reports are presented, Parties and non-Party stakeholders will be invited to share any further reflections or reactions to the reports until the allocated time for this meeting lapses.
The reporting meeting will last for about one and a half hours and will be conducted in accordance with established UNFCCC procedures and practice for plenary meetings.
