Music and Entertainment Industry Has Fundamental Role to Raise Awareness For Climate Action
Norwegian DJ, musician and producer Matoma has committed to make his “One in a million” Tour 2018 climate neutral through participation in the Climate Neutral Now initiative of UN Climate Change.
The entertainment industry, including the musical scene, can play a fundamental role in helping raise awareness among its public with regards to the importance of contributing to climate action and achieving the goals of the Paris Climate Change Agreement. With millions of spectators and followers globally, music stars find themselves in a privileged position to inspire others to act.
Recognizing this, Matoma, DJ and record producer from Norway, decided to make his next tour “One in a million” through the USA and the UK, not only climate neutral but climate positive. This means that he and his team will strive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions related to their tour as much as possible, and then over-compensate for the unavoidable emissions using United Nations-certified credits.
"Since I started making music and putting on shows, all I ever wanted to do is spread the love and for people to come out and just have a great, positive time. Now making my concerts climate positive is a powerful way of taking this mission to the next level and raising awareness on an important issue. For this tour I'm proud to work with Chooose and the UNFCCC to calculate the carbon footprint of my touring activity - the flights of me and my crew and also the presence of those in attendance at my concerts - to not just offset but put in a positive effect. I'm happy to be spreading the love and positivity in an even bigger way!", said Matoma.
Matoma and his team are achieving this goal through the following measures:
- Measuring greenhouse gas emissions associated to the tour, including travel -the biggest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions- and participation by the public.
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible: travel itineraries have been optimized to reduce air travel as much as possible.
- Offsetting remaining emissions with UN Certified Emission Reductions.
Matoma has collaborated with the Norwegian company Chooose to successfully offset emissions and achieve a climate positive tour.

Matoma will present his tour “One in a million” in the USA and the United Kingdom between January and March 2018.
