This week we feature a song by Bernadette La Hengst, the Berlin-based singer/songwriter who also produces theater shows. Save the World —song in German and English— was written as a special climate change number for the inaugural Save the World show of Theatre Bonn in Germany last year. It will feature on Bernadette’s new album to be released on 2 October 2015 by Trikont.
“We had around 15 minutes to engage the audience on what can often seem a highly complex, distant issue. I wanted to use the power and the emotion of music, working with the audience as an impromptu choir, to show how if we cooperate as humanity and share instead of consume we can climb mountains—even climate mountains”.
The singer/song writer also works with women, the unemployed and refugees. Her new album will also carry new songs on the plight of those fleeing misery in Africa and the Middle East.
Says Bernadette: “And there is a climate link there too. The European Commission’s recent “agenda on migration,” identifies war, poverty, globalisation, persecution but also climate change as forces driving migration from outside the EU”.
Listen to Save the World
Save the World
Es gibt kein richtiges im falschen Klima,
von Massachusetts bis nach Fukushima,
und wenn uns morgen die Sonne aufweckt,
dann sind die Sorgen alle wieder weg,
There is no right in the wrong climate,
from Massachusetts up to China,
when we wake up in the morning sun,
all our troubles will soon be gone.
Say goodbye to lethargy - save the world with this melody!
Und wir bewegen uns so souverän,
durch das Zeitalter des Anthropozän,
zu lange pflegen wir unsere Distanz
zur Welt in morbider Eleganz.
We are pretending as if we are souvereign,
through the age of the anthropocene,
we cultivate our distance
to this world with a morbid elegance.
Say goodbye to lethargy - save the world with this melody!
Nicht produzieren, sondern teilen,
die Zeit verlieren und länger verweilen,
anstatt verkaufen, lieber verschenken,
wir haben Freunde anstatt nur Klienten.
Sharing your things instead of producing,
savour the moment, time`s there for losing,
talk to your neighbors about something to lend,
instead of a client you`ll get a new friend.
Say goodbye to lethargy - save the world with this melody!
Send us your Climate Song for Paris COP21Are you an amateur or professional singer, and do you care deeply about climate change? Then be part of the global movement in support of a meanginful new universal climate change agreement to be concluded in Paris in December (COP 21/CMP 11). Send us your climate songs to newsroom@unfccc.int so we can spread the word in the run-up to the meeting. The song would need to be already posted online in a sharable format so that we can link to it (as a sound file or video or embedded on a website) and we would ask for a short paragraph about how it was made and what the song means for you. |
