Background
IRENA: The International Renewable Energy Agency is an intergovernmental organization mandated to facilitate cooperation, advance knowledge, and promote the adoption and sustainable use of renewable energy.
RES4Africa: RES4Africa (Renewable Energy Solutions for Africa) is a Foundation that works in support of Africa’s just energy transition in order to achieve the SDG7, ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
UNDP (Youth4Climate): Youth4Climate is a global initiative, co-led by the Government of Italy and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and co-shaped with youth and other strategic partners. The Youth4Climate network supports youth-led climate action on the ground, through funding, learning, and knowledge exchange opportunities.
UNU-VIE: The United Nations University Vice Rectorate in Europe (UNU-VIE) is one of two Vice Rectorates and the only one located outside Japan. UNU-VIE supports the worldwide institutional development of UN University, facilitates collaboration across the UN University and the United Nations, and shares knowledge and expertise through the development of joint activities and projects.
Objectives
The Consortium aims to achieve the below objectives through the join event in the Africa Climate Week:
- Raise awareness and build capacities of African youth climate practitioners, entrepreneurs and activists in the field of Just energy transition and building resilience in their respective communities.
- Start the discussion on a couple of policy case studies tackling Just energy transition and building resilience in African communities, cities, or countries. Challenge the youth participants to work on policy recommendation and climate action in the respective local community.
- Host a roundtable discussion with parties, experts and young advocates to discuss in depth challenges and opportunities in the just energy transition and building resilience in Africa.
- Empower youth to get their voices heard through policy recommendations and climate action mechanisms being heard by party and non-party stakeholders as well as policy makers and decision makers from local perspectives.
