Introduction

The Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage is the main vehicle under the UNFCCC to avert, minimize and address loss and damage associated with climate change impacts, including extreme events and slow onset events, in developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to climate change. This year, its Executive Committee has adopted the second Five-year Rolling workplan and endorsed new Plans of Action for its Task Force on Displacement and the Technical Expert Group on Comprehensive Risk Management.

Objective and Expected Results of the Side Event

This event will provide an opportunity for the Executive Committee to present its new Five-year Rolling workplan as well as for its technical expert group and task force to present ways in which their new Plans of Action will assist developing countries in averting, minimizing or addressing loss or damage. It will also allow for reflections on how the thematic expert groups can best serve countries in catalyzing support for action at the national, subnational and local levels.
