Background
The Executive Committee of the Warsaw International Mechanism guides the implementation of the functions of the Mechanism through its workplan, and with the support of its thematic expert groups. The current workplan of the Committee has five strategic workstreams relevant to averting, minimizing and addressing loss and damage associated with climate change impacts, through enhanced cooperation and facilitation concerning: slow onset events, non-economic losses, comprehensive risk management, human mobility, and action and support.
The 2019 review of the Warsaw International Mechanism resulted in prominent mandates for the Executive Committee to bring together relevant stakeholders, in particular for enhancing action and support, including facilitating the mobilization of finance, which is part of the functions of the Mechanism.
