Building young people's capacities is key for meaningful participation and to recognize their crucial role in climate action. By strengthening their capacities and competencies, young people are empowered to contribute to advancing ambitious climate action and to demand their seat at the "decision-making"-table. However, often young people are not consulted and involved when it comes to decision-making processes.

To promote youth participation in German development cooperation, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has set up a Youth Advisory Council in 2021. The Advisory Council advises the ministry from a young perspective on development-political topics, including on climate and environmental issues.

In this session, representatives from BMZ's Youth Advisory Council discussed how institutionalized youth participation works in practice. What are challenges and best practices? The Advisory Council invited you to get in touch with them and learned about their experiences and were excited to hear about participants' experiences and to get to know their points of view! Let's share experiences and best practices to build capacities for meaningful youth participation.
