Introduction

The UNFCCC secretariat engages in collaborative activities, initiatives and programmes with United Nations entities, secretariats of other multilateral environmental agreements and intergovernmental organizations. This collaboration is based on Article 7, paragraph 2(i), of the Convention.

The key objective in such engagement is to support the implementation of the Convention, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement in an efficient and effective manner by ensuring synergetic delivery of support and access to the services and information of relevant entities.

The activities undertaken with UN and other international organizations are also very relevant to the wider multilateral action on sustainable development. This is particularly relevant as countries develop and implement measures to support the recovery from the impacts of COVID 19.

Objectives

  • Highlight the importance of cooperative activities;
  • Provide an overview of UN Climate Change cooperation with UN and other international organizations since May 2020 (FCCC/SBSTA/2021/INF.1) and allow for discussion on UN system coherence on climate action
