Katowice Committee of Experts on the Impacts of the Implementation of Response Measures
Background
The work of the KCI comprises four work areas. Including, economic diversification, just transition, assessing and analyzing impacts and facilitating the development of tools and methodologies. In order to carry out the work programme, the forum and the KCI make use of the following modalities. These include building awareness and enhancing information-sharing through the exchange and sharing of experience and best practices, preparing technical papers, case studies, concrete examples and guidelines, receiving input from experts, practitioners and relevant organization and lastly, organizing workshops.
The context of the planned session was to make use of KCI’s modalities to facilitate knowledge sharing, engage stakeholders, and encourage discussion on the topic of inclusive urban transition into greener cities, based on the recent publication from KCI.
Objectives
- To foster engaging peer-to-peer learning for relevant stakeholders and help with promoting capacity building on inclusive urban transition processes and foster public engagement
- To provide capacity building opportunities in understanding and implementing best practices and climate friendly strategies and aid stakeholders in their policy making and implementation process
- To highlight the necessity of accessible housing options tailored to individual needs in order to address climate change challenges
- To enhance engagement and awareness on just transition by identifying the different needs necessary for a just urban transition towards a greener city

Key Outcomes
- Pressing issues for capacity building for cities to change involves the most vulnerable ones, such as the workers who can be meaningfully engaged with the climate action initiatives.
- The session identified that a more socially inclusive approach to capacity building will entail solutions for transitions involving those more impacted by climate change.
- This session discussed cross-cutting issues, such as multi-level partnerships that bring everyone on board and the need for more balanced capacity building to help people become more competent at technical skills for a career and job-related benefits associated with the green transition.
