Ninth meeting of the Consultative Group of Experts 

Summary of outcome

The ninth meeting of the Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) took place on 9 and 10 February 2023, from 09:00 to 17:00 (CET) in Bonn, Germany. Twenty-six (26) CGE members attended the meeting. 

Key summary of the outcomes of the meeting includes the following: 

• The CGE elected Mr. Xiang Gao (China) as the Chair and Ms. Jenny Mager (Chile) as the Rapporteur for 2023.

• The main objective of the meeting was to review its work programme for 2022-2026 and develop its 2023 workplan.

• The CGE reviewed and revised its work programme for 2022-2026, and successfully developed its 2023 workplan.

• In addition, the group identified the topics for its regional hands-on training workshops and webinars to be organized in 2023, as follows:

• • The regional hands-on training workshops would focus on reporting information on climate change impacts and adaptation, and support needed and received in relation to adaptation reporting;
  • The regional webinars would focus on introducing updated CGE training materials on mitigation.

• The group agreed to continue enhancing its communication and outreach activities, and collaboration efforts with other expert groups and constituted bodies under the Convention and the Paris Agreement, and other intergovernmental and international organizations. The CGE also agreed on a strategic plan in its efforts to engaging with these stakeholders.

• In addition, the CGE continued its discussions on reviewing its Rules of Procedure with a view to taking into account, as applicable, relevant elements from the COP 26 outcomes in Glasgow and informal consultations held at COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh. The CGE will continue considering this matter at its 11^th meeting.

• Finally, the CGE tentatively agreed to organize its 10th meeting in September 2023.
