 Background:

At Paris, COP 21, governments agreed that mobilizing stronger and more ambitious climate action is urgently required to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. In spite of a growing understanding of adaptation, knowledge gaps remain a critical barrier to countries implementing adaptation measures.

As the UNFCCC knowledge-to-action hub on adaptation and resilience, the Nairobi work programme (NWP) will provide Parties and stakeholders an update on partnerships which are helping close knowledge gaps and meet knowledge needs in various countries and subregions. This event will highlight collaboration with universities, global and regional centres and networksunder the Lima Adaptation Knowledge Initiative. These partnerships are helping fill adaptation knowledge gaps of targeted knowledge users in countries and subregions.

Objective of the event:

  • Share outcomes and learning from the partnership initiatives under the NWP.
  • Launch the UN Climate Change and Universities Partnership Programme.
  • Share examples of multi-partner collaboration with subregional entities, universities, and NWP partners.
  • Explore innovative ways to strengthen knowledge partnerships and catalyse new ones, particularly for vulnerable developing countries such as the least developed countries, small island developing States and African States.
