Course E focuses on how to conduct voluntary technical expert review established under decision 9/CMA.4 specifically to review the information related to climate change impacts and adaptation reported under article 7 of the Paris Agreement. This course is mandatory for all experts to participate in this thematic area of the technical expert review.
The course is structured into below listed five lessons covering all the topics contained in chapter IV of the annex to decision 18/CMA.1 as well as relevant cross-cutting elements.
- Lesson 1: Overview of the review on a voluntary basis of the information reported on Climate Change impacts and Adaptation under the enhanced transparency framework under the Paris Agreement
- Lesson 2: Impacts, vulnerabilities, plans and actions
- Lesson 3: Progress on implementation of Adaptation - Monitoring and evaluation of Adaptation actions and processes
- Lesson 4: Averting, minimizing and addressing loss and damage associated with climate change impacts
- Lesson 5: Cooperation, good practices, experience, lessons learned, and other matters
Course E also includes a Toolbox*will be available soon to facilitate the information and access to additional existing materials on climate change impacts and adaptation that can be helpful to the experts who would like to expand their knowledge, and also provide a potential reference material for Parties as they seek to enhance their reporting. The toolbox includes additional information on risk and vulnerability assessment methods, monitoring and evaluation approaches and indicators, and adaptation planning, among other topics. Experts taking the course E are invited to visit the UNFCCC Adaptation Knowledge Portal as well as the UNFCCC webpages related to adaptation and loss and damage to explore further tools, methodologies, and case studies for reference.
