RD&D funding needs and the driving forces for technological innovation and implementation

Annelene Decaux, Project Manager Global Climate
Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)

To achieve stabilization in atmospheric greenhouse gas concentration, fundamental change in the energy system is required. To close this "technology gap" and bring key climate mitigation technologies into the marketplace, sustained and massive research, development and deployment (RD&D) investment is needed. The presentation will describe RD&D funding needs and look at the driving forces for technological innovation and implementation. It will also suggest strategies for overcoming the technology gap and discuss the relative roles and responsibilities of the public and private sectors.
