UNFCCC Media Accreditation

The UNFCCC secretariat has been open for media accreditation for the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn (COP 23) since May and has been processing a large volume of applications. The secretariat indicated the initial quota was increased and that applications would be processed until the quota was reached.

As of 8 November the quota has been reached.  Accreditations are now at the maximum level in relation to the physical capacity of the conference and media facilities, taking into account other participants and fire and security regulations.

Unfortunately, we are not in a position to extend accreditation to applications received after 8 November.

Press conferences/Booking a press conference room

Press conferences conducted at UNFCCC meetings are open to all accredited media. Only registered government representatives and admitted observer organizations may hold a press conference.  In addition, the UNFCCC secretariat regularly briefs the press throughout the conference.

The two main press conference rooms are in the BULA Zone. Press conference room 1 is for Parties/UN/IGOs; press conference room 2 is for NGOs. In addition, there is a media events room in Bonn Zone, restricted to Global Climate Action events, Momentum for Change, and conference host (Fiji, Germany, UNFCCC) events. Per the press conference room policy, admitted organizations may hold one press conference per day only in BULA press conference room 2.

Interview requests

The UNFCCC can accept requests to interview Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa and other UNFCCC officials. Send requests to: press@unfccc.int

When requesting an interview, please indicate your organization, name, position and submit a brief list of questions to be answered.

To arrange for interviews with delegations or UN agencies, please inquire at the Media Information Desk in the Media Centre.

Badges

Participants with badges for the Bula Zone will be able to access the Bonn Zone without additional registration.

An official UNFCCC conference badge is required to gain access to the premises. Badges are issued at the registration counter only on the basis of prior confirmation in the online registration system. For security reasons, all participants are requested to wear their badges visibly at all times.

As of Saturday, 4 November 2017 you may proceed to the registration desk at the Bula Zone to collect your badge for access to the conference premises.

The acknowledgement letter, available upon confirmation in the online registration system, and a valid passport or a nationally approved identification card should be presented to the registration staff for the issuance of your badge.
 

Registration times – Bula Zone:

Saturday, 4 November, until Friday, 17 November 2017, from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., except Sunday, 12 November 2017. The Bula Zone, including registration, will be closed on Sunday, 12 November 2017.

Visas

All foreign delegates entering the Federal Republic of Germany must have a valid passport.

Participants requiring a visa should contact the appropriate consular authorities well in advance of the conference to ensure sufficient time for processing.

To facilitate the issuance of a visa, a copy of the acknowledgement letter from the online registration system must be attached to the visa application.

Accommodation

Media representatives accredited to cover UNFCCC meetings are responsible for their own travel and hotel bookings. The secretariat is not in a position to make these arrangements.
