Green Climate Fund

Background information

At the Conference of the Parties (COP16) in Cancun, by decision 1/CP.16, Parties established the Green Climate Fund (GCF) as an operating entity of the Financial Mechanism of the Convention under Article 11. The Fund is governed by the GCF Board and it is accountable to and functions under the guidance of the COP to support projects, programmes, policies and other activities in developing country Parties using thematic funding windows.

The GCF was deigned by the Transitional Committee (TC) as per decision 1/CP.16, paragraph 109. Based on the report of the TC (FCCC/CP/2011/6 and Add.1), at COP 17 held in Durban, Parties adopted decision 3/CP.17 and approved the Governing Instrument for the GCF.

This module presents programme and project-level data chanelled through the GCF. It is organized in five sub-modules. The first sub-module presents the data by country in an interactive map. The second sub-module presents data on the readiness and preparatory support programme (the readiness programme) and projects. The third module and the fourth sub-modules contain data on mitigation and adaptation programmes and projects. And the fifith sub-module presents data on programme and projects financed through the private sector facilities.

This module is a joint effort between the secretariat of the UNFCCC and GCF aimed at enchancing accessibility of information on financial flows that have been channeled, mobilized and leveraged by the GEF. The data presented in this module has been imported from the GCF website without further modification or amendment by the UNFCCC secretariat. More detailed and comprehensive information can be found at GCF Project Database and GCF API data portal.
