Global Climate Action Events at COP24: Full Programme

In the heart of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 24) in Katowice, Poland, Global Climate Action (GCA) is hosting a lively program of events, which will demonstrate how cities, regions, businesses investors, and civil society are working – in harmony with governments – to implement the Paris Agreement.

These events are all located around a cluster of venues, situated between the main entrance and the plenaries (see the full map below), which collectively act as a Global Climate Action campus. In total, there are three closed-door venues, which all converge on an open amphitheatre, called the Action Hub:

Participants in GCA events will represent the spectrum of climate action and will include CEOs, Mayors, Governors and other figureheads from civil society at large. Some speakers already confirmed are Astronaut Mae Jemison, Explorer Bertrand Piccard, IKEA CEO Jesper Brodin, Lord Nicholas Stern, Al Gore and Greenpeace Executive Director Jennifer Morgan.

The full program boasts well over 100 events, incorporating a range of formats, such as Davos-style events, roundtable discussions, digital dialogues, TED-style talks, video competitions, and the Global Climate Action Awards Ceremony.

High-level global climate action event

Tuesday 4 December, 10:00 to 12:00,
Plenary Mazowsze

The Global Climate Action High-Level event will offer a unique vision of how the world is affected by climate change and how different sectors are tackling the issue. It will highlight collaboration, synergies and progress between GCA stakeholders. The centerpiece/body of this event will take place in the form of a ‘fireside-chat’: moderated dialogues where two dynamic high-level speakers will be paired to explore specified topics – all embracing ‘inclusive multilateralism’.

Intergenerational Inquiry

Thursday 6 December 2019, 13:00 to 14:30, Lubelskie

The Intergenerational Inquiry is the highlight of Young and Future Generations Day. The event will bring together decision-makers and young leaders to discuss the key role that the youth who represent more than half of the world’s population - play in implementing climate action. The results of the Conference of Youth (COY14) and inspiring youth-led initiatives will be presented.

Yearbook of Global Climate Action
A discussion on urgency and action

Thursday 6 December 2018, 17.00-18.00, Lubelskie

Climate action by non-state actors is on the rise, and together with national commitments might meet the goals laid down in Paris. The Yearbook for Global Climate Action, a key annual document of the Champions of the Marrakesh Partnership, will provide the food for high-level discussion with urgency and action as the watchwords.

Global Climate Action: Momentum for Change Showcase Event

Tuesday 11 December, 18:00 to 19:30, Lubelskie

This marquee event is a moment of celebration to mark the end of the Global Climate Action activities at COP 24, and to recognize the 15 winners of the 2018 Momentum for Change Award. This event is expected to be one of the most dynamic and exciting events at COP 24, with inspiring speakers, videos, photography, and a musical performance.

Planetary Health: Food Systems Event

Wednesday 12 December 13:15 to 14:45, Lubelskie 

This event, jointly organized by EAT and the UN Climate Change secretariat’s Momentum for Change initiative, in collaboration with The Rockefeller Foundation, aims to raise awareness of the role of food systems in addressing both climate change and the sustainable development goals.
