Join the global community of organizations committing to becoming climate neutral by the second half of the 21 century
In December, 2015, the world came together to sign the Paris Agreement, a global climate change agreement that laid the groundwork for a low-carbon future. In order to make that future a reality, companies, governments and individuals must work together toward climate neutrality. As outlined in the Paris Agreement, all of us have a role to play in rapidly moving the planet toward a pathway that keeps global temperature from raising above 2 degrees Celsius.
For organizations, addressing climate change makes simple economic sense. Whether threatened by supply chain disruption, extreme weather events or rising resource costs,forward-thinking businesses already support bold climate action. They are already unlocking growth, creating jobs and innovating to meet societal and economic needs.
The United Nations Climate Change secretariat invites organizations to take the Climate Neutral Now Pledge. The pledge represents a growing movement of companies and governments taking the lead on reducing emissions and accelerating the global journey to a climate-neutral future.
Organizations that take the pledge commit to:
- Measure and report their greenhouse gas emissions for an agreed-upon period of time
- Reduce their greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible
- Offset remaining emissions with UN Certified Emission Reductions (CERs).
Why take the pledge?
Taking the pledge demonstrates your organization’s commitment to climate action. You will join a community of organizations who are taking bold and decisive steps to address climate change.
Organizations that sign the pledge are recognized on UNFCCC websites and social media channels and may be invited to participate in climate action initiatives with the UN. Your organization will also be given permission to use Climate Neutral Now assets, such as our logo, in communications campaigns. See our partners who already signed the pledge.
How do I take the pledge?
First, read the outline document to ensure that your organization qualifies for and can commit to the pledge's requirements. Ensure that your organization is measuring, reducing and offsetting greenhouse gas emissions as described.
Next, download the pledge document, complete the relevant details and have an authorized representative sign it. Return the page to the UNFCCC by emailing it to email@example.com. We will confirm receipt of the pledge and contact you with next steps.
Many organizations have already taken the pledge. To see the complete list, visit the page dedicated to our Signatories.
What does it mean to be climate neutral?
Climate neutrality is achieved by balancing the amount of emissions your organization generates with the same amount being reduced. Climate neutrality is not necessarily about zero emissions. Instead, it is about reducing current emissions to the point where we reach a balance between our emissions and the absorptive capacity of the Earth.
