The archival exhibition, “The UNFCCC Story”, presents the history of inter-governmental climate change negotiations and the role of the UN Climate Change secretariat through original documents, artefacts, rare photographs and video. This is a living gallery that will continue to develop over time, along with the UN Climate Change secretariat.
Located in the UNFCCC office building in Bonn, Germany, the Gallery records that history and recognizes the achievements of all those who have been part of the over 30 years of climate negotiations, in heartfelt gratitude for their immense contributions to securing a safer climate for future generations.
This exhibition was made possible through a generous donation from the German government, and through prize money awarded for winning the Princess Asturia's award in 2016 for the secretariat's work on the Paris Agreement.
One section of the exhibition discusses the history of the negotiation process.
The Paris Agreement is a landmark in the multilateral climate change process because, for the first time, a binding agreement brings all nations into a common cause to undertake ambitious efforts to combat climate change and adapt to its effects.
The second section of the exhibition is dedicated to exploring the ways in which the negotiation process is carried out.
Another section of the exhibition is dedicated to the role civil society plays in the negotiation process.
The exhibition has a section dedicated to the climate change secretariat, which has seen much change and growth since its founding
The exhibition also provides a chronological timeline that includes many of the milestones, and highs and lows over the years of negotiations.
