Article 6 Training for Countries Leaders in Latin America

On 8 and 12 March 2024, the Regional Collaboration Centre Latin America (RCC LatAm), in collaboration with the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and the Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP), organized a 2-day training on Article 6 for Country Leaders in the GCF Readiness Project on Carbon Markets and Article 6 for Latin America.

Held as an online webinar, the training enabled the participants to attend from different countries such as Panama, Guatemala, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Nicaragua, Chile and Colombia, which in turn facilitated a platform for knowledge exchange between Article 6 and Carbon Markets experts.

This program was designated to empower countries to participate in the cooperative approaches under Article 6 through an introductory presentation that goes in depth about the Article 6.2 cooperative approach and the Article 6.4 mechanism, including the transition process from the CDM and participation requirements with the implications that each conveys for countries.

Participants benefitted from valuable insights and experiences shared through the interactive sessions and self-assessments. They also had an opportunity to clarify their doubts and present their status about meeting the participation requirements for each type of market-based cooperation as set out in Article 6, while understanding the relevance and practicality of Article 6.
