Addressing Climate Change While Improving the Lives of the Urban Poor
June 10, 2014 - From lighting up slums in India with solar power to building more resilient communities in Mozambique, there is an enormous groundswell of action underway across the globe to address climate change. This short video shows some of the highlights of a Momentum for Change special event at the Bonn Climate Change Conference in June 2014 to showcase climate solutions. The event brought together two previous Lighthouse Activity winners to speak about how the urban poor in developing countries are leading climate action.

Momentum for Change: Showcasing Climate Action in Warsaw
Momentum for Change showcased inspiring examples of people taking action on climate change across the globe during a series of special events at the Warsaw Climate Change Conference in November. The events told the stories of the 17 inspiring activities announced in November as 2013 Lighthouse Activities.
From a powerful, women-led climate campaign in Australia to a ground-breaking effort to build climate-smart housing in Mexico, the events showcased how climate action is improving lives, economies and the environment.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres rode on and posed with two bamboo bicycles, which are made by young women in Ghana as part of efforts to tackle climate change. This exciting evening event featured UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, UNFCCC Excutive Secretary Christiana Figueres and a musical performance by Rocky Dawuni. It was an Oscar-like celebration of the 2013 Lighthouse Activities with powerful videos, photography and a recognition ceremony. This event launched a new partnership between the UN Climate Change secretariat and the Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) to underscore the critical role Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays in tackling climate change.
