The activity has created an environmentally-friendly corridor called the Green Line, which has rescued 60 acres of barren wasteland. It has reduced the erosion rate with reforestation activities, while reducing the rate of desertification in the area.

Mitigation / Adaptation

The activity has aimed to address climate change through the reforestation activities, which have absorbed 2.2 tons of CO2 per year.

The Green Line has also decreased 10 tons of CO2 emissions due to the consolidation of roads, the promotion of public transportation and by using alternative energy sources to provide electricity to the region.

Social and environmental benefits

Green Line has direct benefits for 140,000 people from 31 neighborhoods. It has had benefits to the community's health by helping to decrease respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases by 10% due to a cleaner environment, sport facilities and mobile medical services.

Green Line also offers bicycle and jogging tracks built with permeable concrete, which allow rainwater to be absorbed into the ground. It also promotes public lighting using solar energy, which has also helped to improve safety levels in the area.

Homes near the Green Line have also benefited through an improvement in their property values by 25%.

Potential for scaling-up and replication

The activity has potential for scaling up and replication in other areas exposed to environmental hazards related to the extraction and transportation of fossil fuels. It can build the resilience of communities by providing green spaces, while making the transition to renewable energy sources.
