voluntary corporate citizenship initiative with over 8,000 participants in 135 countries.
Lila Karbassi is Head of Environment and Climate at the United Nations Global Compact, the UN’s
corporate citizenship initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and
strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and
anti-corruption (over 12,000 participants from over 145 countries).
Ms. Karbassi has extensive experience in the field of environment and climate change. She was in charge of
the Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum and currently oversees Caring for Climate, the UN's business
leadership initiative aimed at advancing the role of the private sector in climate change. Caring for Climate
is comprised of 400 companies from 60 countries Ms. Karbassi has been part of Global Compact’s
management team since 2005. She holds a Masters and Doctorate in Biology from the University of Grenoble and
Paris, France as well as a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Bocconi School of Management in
