Melanie Walker is Deputy Director for Special Initiatives on the Integrated Delivery team. She joined the
foundation in 2006 as a Senior Program Officer charged with the management of One-Time Opportunities and
Learning Initiatives in the areas of urban poverty, governance, quality education in the developing world,
and integrated development. In early 2012 she led the team's transition and now portfolio consolidation
onto Integrated Delivery, where lessons from prior grantmaking are being incorporated into strategy.
As Deputy Director for Special Initiatives on Integrated Delivery, she and her team are responsible for
supporting the adoption of cross-cutting tools aimed at mobilizing domestic resources, engaging informal
economies, and organizing communities across both health and development sectors. Before joining the
foundation, Melanie worked in various roles within the World Health Organization, as a practitioner in the
developing world and as director for a New York-based science and health philanthropy. Her educational
background is in the health sciences, with additional studies in management/economics and computer
science.
