Integrated Delivery
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
Melanie Walker is Deputy Director for Special Initiatives on the Integrated Delivery team. She joined
the foundation in 2006 as a Senior Program Officer charged with the management of One-Time
Opportunities and Learning Initiatives in the areas of urban poverty, governance, quality education
in the developing world, and integrated development. In early 2012 she led the team's transition

As Deputy Director for Special Initiatives on Integrated Delivery, she and her team are responsible
for supporting the adoption of cross-cutting tools aimed at mobilizing domestic resources, engaging
informal economies, and organizing communities across both health and development sectors. Before
joining the foundation, Melanie worked in various roles within the World Health Organization, as a
practitioner in the developing world and as director for a New York-based science and health
philanthropy. Her educational background is in the health sciences, with additional studies in
management/economics and computer science.
