From the hallways of the PrepComs, to the CSD, to the OECD, to the climate change secretariat, Joke was
courageous, committed, and fair. She was focused on the important and refreshingly down to earth. I
admired her and learned from her. Our memory of her and her unflagging work for a sustainable world
adds one more motivation to our work.
-Rachel Kyte, Director, Environment and Social Development, International Finance
Corporation
It is with great regret that I heard the news of Joke's passing. She was a dedicated professional
who cared deeply about people and the world around her. She will be fondly remembered.
-Liz Dowdeswell, Former Executive Director UNEP
Participants, representing 31 countries, at the "Informal Dialogue on the role of LULUCF in the
Climate Change response" paid tribute to Joke Waller-Hunter by observing a minute of silence at
the start of the meeting on October 18 in Rotorua, New Zealand. Participants expressed shock over her
sudden demise and extend their deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.
-Jenny Wong, MIS/UNFCCC
We deeply regret the passing away of Joke and will keep her in good memory.
-Roland Hohmann, OcCC and ProClim-, Switzerland
I was deeply shocked to learn of Joke's death. I came to know Joke and Herman, her husband, almost
30 years ago, when we were young officials at regional and local level. I have always admired Joke for
her devotion to her work and the perseverance with which she worked towards her goals. She was a source
of inspiration to many. I offer my condolences to her family and all who knew her.
