In order to facilitate the tasks of non-Annex I Parties, the UNFCCC secretariat produced a software which incorporates all the elements a national GHG inventory could contain according to decision 17/CP.8. It is hoped that this software is flexible enough to accommodate the great variety of needs and constraints faced by non-Annex I Parties.

New version 1.3.2 of software and manual available as of January 2007

The software has been updated and users can now install the new version. If you have installed version 1.3.1 of the software, you should replace all the module files with the new ones in the main directory. If you had already started an inventory with version 1.3.1 for a year X, you have to replace modules 5B and 6 with the new versions in that year-speficic subdirectory and (a) either enter data for the new modules again for year X or (b) make the changes that have been made manually. These procedures are fully described in the manual which has also been updated.

The materials contained in this CGE training package, on national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories, intends to provide the reader with the best possible synthesis of all the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) methodologies and tools available which could be of use for non-Annex I Parties and experts in the process of preparation of their national GHG inventories.

The present training package is directly designed to address the UNFCCC guidelines for the preparation of national communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (decision 17/CP.8), and is in no case intended to replace any of the IPCC methodologies or tools it is referring to in its various modules.

For further detail and explanation, the reader is therefore always encouraged to go back to the original IPCC documents or tools referred to.
