World Environment Day 2014 - Youth activities in SIDS

The UNFCCC secretariat joins this year's celebrations of World Environment Day on 5 June by focusing on the most vulnerable group living in the most vulnerable places in the world – youth from SIDS. Understand the reality of climate change from their perspective and connect with their hopes, dreams and their determination to save their homelands.

image The SIDS Youth Network
Explore the amazing work of the SIDS Youth Network, created as an outcome of an international consultation process being conducted by UNESCO, UNICEF and UNFPA since 2013, involving young people from all SIDS regions. These consultations have been part of the youth preparatory process for the 3rd International Conference on SIDS, which will take place in Apia, Samoa, from 1-4 September 2014.

Project Survival Pacific: Our SIDS. Our Future
In 2014 young people from "Project Survival Pacific" launched the "Our SIDS. Our Future" campaign to emphasize issues affecting their Pacific small island nations and to promote youth partnerships. View project video.

image SIDS Youth Global Day of Action
UNESCO and SIDS youth are organizing a Global Day of Action on 24 June 2014 to encourage young people to develop, implement and share climate change activities. Follow the action on the SIDS Youth Network website, facebook and twitter.

Pacific Youth Council
The Pacific Youth Council is a regional non-governmental youth organization, which serves as an umbrella body for ten national youth councils across the Pacific region. Its vision is to empower young people to become active citizens and leaders. Learn more about their activities here.

Caribbean Youth Environment Network

The Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) focuses on empowering young people and their communities to develop programmes and actions to address socio-economic and environmental issues. The CYEN has been leading youth participation in the Caribbean SIDS since 1993, has conducted projects on climate change throughout the Caribbean, and actively participated in the UNFCCC process.
