Next round of UN Climate Change talks starts in Bonn, June 3

Governments begin their next round of climate change talks under the United Nations in Bonn on
June 3. This meeting resumes the second session of the "Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban
Platform for Enhanced Action" (ADP), which is tasked both to complete a universal climate
agreement by 2015 that will come into force from 2020, and to find ways to increase the current
inadequate level of global ambition to address human-generated climate change before the end of
the decade.

United Arab Emirates first Party to accept Doha Amendment The United Arab
Emirates has become the first Party to the Kyoto Protocol to formally accept the amendment to
the Protocol adopted at the eighth session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the
meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol in Doha, Qatar. The United Arab Emirates deposited
their instrument of acceptance on 26 April 2013. The amendment is expected to enter into force
after three quarters of the Parties to the Protocol submit their instruments of acceptance to
the Depositary.
In his
letter (60 kB) dated 13 February 2013 to the Governments of the Kyoto Protocol Parties, the
Secretary General of the United Nations congratulated Parties on the adoption of the Amendment
and encouraged its prompt acceptance.
