UNFCCC Executive Secretary addresses Carbon Expo
Cologne, Germany
9 May 2008
Yvo de Boer gave a presentation at Carbon Expo on 9 May, outlining the importance of the
carbon market in climate change abatement. Parties to the Kyoto Protocol have clearly
indicated that the mechanisms including the CDM, emissions trading and JI, have a future
beyond 2012, but that they should be enhanced. While the details of this need to be worked
out, such an enhancement needs to ensure that all developing countries benefit from the
market and that this constitutes a step towards a global low-emissions economic development
plan.
